She had a passion for art at a very young age. Now as an adult everything came into place. In 2015 Kathleen decided with her husband to open a gallery in Souris. Well, the word spread like wildfire as Kathleen was already established as an art teacher in her basement, it made all the sense to open. Kathleen rented this small space for a year and a half and needless to say she ran out of room very quickly. Having between 15-20 artists and between 50-100 students by next spring.
In 2016 Kathleen was Nominated “WOMAN OF DISTINCTION” in Brandon, “what an honour to be amongst such wonderful, beautiful ladies”.
A few months after that, Robert and Kathleen decided it was time to purchase a much larger space across the street
which, was the best thing they ever did, as the gallery took on a life of its own. Lagasse’s Studio of Fine Art now has now close to 180 members and with Kathleen teaching all kinds of workshops, with thousands of people coming from all over. Also travelling to many communities to teach, as far as Portage la Prairie, Gladstone, Deloraine, Waskada, Milita, Killarney, Cartwright, Mather, Wawanesa, Clear Lake , Brandon, and so many more.
The Gallery Members are from all over Manitoba, anywhere from Gillam, Flin Flon, Minnedosa, Swan Lake, Swan River, Brandon, Winnipeg, Selkirk, Portage, Elgin, (and many more) and of Course Souris. Selling everything from pottery, sculptures, jewelry, and wood carvings to furniture, weaves and of course all sorts of original paintings.
Kathleen makes it a rule that she meets all her artists often as they are all eager to bring in something new they had just created. This is why her place always looks new and exciting every time a customer comes in.
